Lesson One: Your Newspaper
Part 4: The Circulation Department

The Circulation Department
The circulation department takes care of everything after the newspaper is printed. This includes delivering the product to homes with carriers or to the post office to be mailed to homes as well as dropping papers off at newsstands and vending machines. They're also the department responsible for keeping circulation high. People are constantly moving in and out of the area and canceling subscriptions, so they're always working to bring in new people through telemarketing, direct mail, advertisements in the newspaper to convert newsstand buyers into subscribers, and even radio and television commercials.

You'll probably see them at every major town event promoting the newspaper as well as sponsoring events. Although advertising sales brings in about 75% of all newspaper revenues and circulation brings in the other 25%, without the circulation department, nobody would be reading the paper and therefore no ads could be sold.
